Our Course Offer

Find out more about us

We believe you are more likely to succeed in an environment in which you are known as an individual and not as a number. Because we know our students well, we know how to support them and push them to achieve.

Our class sizes ensure that students get valuable 1-2-1 support in lessons. Some of our lessons operate with just 12-15 students.

Moving to Post-16 study involves gaining greater freedom with your time. You will be studying fewer courses than you did at GCSE and therefore will have additional time on your timetable to use as you wish. We may be a Sixth Form, but you are not expected to attend school when you do not have registered periods. Most of our students have free periods for 2 mornings and and afternoon each week.

This means more time for:

  • a job
  • the gym
  • or anything else you want!

Sixth Form is about more than just the lessons that you study, it is about the experiences that support you to become your future self. We offer a wide range of extra curricular activities including: table tennis, badminton, pickleball, Social Enterprise and investment clubs, Duke of Edinburgh Programme, War Hammer painting, Chess Club, magazine writing, 3D Printing and much more besides. If we don’t offer it, why not start it!

We pride ourselves on our careers provision which is seen as outstanding. We have a proven track record of supporting students to successful university, degree apprenticeship, apprenticeship and employment pathways.

Careers guidance for young people should inspire and motivate them to fulfil their potential. One of the best ways to inspire every pupil is through the creation of real-life contacts with the world of work to help them better understand where different choices can take them in the future.

It is important that you receive regular feedback on your progress through assessments so that you have the opportunity to apply your class-based understanding to the types of questions you will receive in external examinations. In addition to in-class assessment (Portfolios) there are also three periods of mock examinations. These take place in June of Year 12 and December and March of Year 13. At this point you will experience the pressure of preparing for and sitting multiple exams in a short space of time.

We pride ourselves on our ‘Steps to Success’ programme to ensure that you perform to your potential in external examinations.

Our attention to student wellbeing and behaviour has been judged as outstanding.  Underpinning all students’ lessons and our excellent extra-curricular is a highly effective and unique personal coaching programme. Students in the Sixth Form can self refer to our coaching programme so support and guidance on dealing with a wide range of issues. Be it managing anxiety or setting effective goals and managing your time, our staff are here to work with you.

Excellent relationships between staff, students and parents are at the heart of our school’s success.  Alongside parents’ evenings and formal reports, weekly effort and attendance data is sent to all of our students so they can reflect on their progress.  We pride ourselves on regular friendly, open and honest conversations and staff will contact contact home to celebrate achievement in school.

PHSE

The personal development and wellbeing of students is Outstanding. PHSE and R.E is  delivered through ‘Employer Engagement weeks’ and our PSHE programme. There are numerous opportunities, from partaking in the democratic process, workshops, visits and keynote speakers and a range of activities around well-being, keeping safe, sex and relationships. These are reinforced by a fortnightly PSHE sessions KS5. Our assembly programme provides a series of rich, diverse and well-coordinated talks on current and relevant themes.

SRE

We recognise that Sex and Relationship Education (SRE) is lifelong learning about physical, moral and emotional development. It is about the importance of stable and loving relationships including marriage for family life, as well as other relationships such as civil partnerships. SRE is about respect, love and care. SRE provides pupils with factual knowledge and an understanding of the influences on young people, encouraging them to be aware of the options open to them and to take charge of decisions about their own behaviour. It encourages the development of personal and interpersonal skills, the awareness and respect of self and others and encourages reflection and responsibility. It is a driver for ensuring that pupils behave safely in their attitudes and actions regarding sex and relationships.

Further information can be found in our SRE policy.
