People, places, and planet
KS4 Geography

Our Aim

  • Geography at Logic is about students building a deeper understanding of the world we live in.
  • We want students to develop a continued curiosity in geographical developments and their impact in the UK and across the globe.
  • Students will be fascinated and knowledgeable in geographical processes but equally will always feel and appreciate the relevance of what they are learning.
  • They will be able to make connections and comparisons between topics, case studies and what is currently happening around the world.
  • Students’ ability and confidence in literacy and oracy will grow as their knowledge builds and they are able to apply and present well evidenced arguments. This too will be reflected in their written work and will well-equip students for vocational or further academic pathways.
  • We aim for students to become knowledgeable, inquiring and caring young people who begin to develop an eagerness to have a positive impact in their world as they understand and engage with the interactions between people and environment.

Our Delivery

  • Every lesson will be built around a ‘big question’ that will develop students’ understanding of the overarching theme.
  • The course has been sequenced in such a way as to ensure students can use prior and existing knowledge to help them access increasingly complex material, building meaningful schema throughout.
  • Every lesson has a DNA focused on retrieval practice often in the form of low stakes quizzing.
  • Every lesson there is modelling of oracy and/or writing to support students applying knowledge.
  • Every lesson students are expected to read and we unpack Tier 2 and 3 definitions to support understanding.
  • Students respond to questions through cold calling.
  • Oracy is developed through modelling language to be used in discussion and in response to questioning.
  • Dual coding is consistently used in our lessons to support understanding and retention of key concepts/knowledge.
  • Cultural capital is developed through connecting content to current affairs.
  • Every week students practise their writing through applying knowledge to an/part of an exam style question.
  • The format of weekly PREP is: Fact (retrieval of key knowledge), Connect (connecting knowledge to deeper thinking questions), Apply (applying the content to exam questions)
  • Revision lessons follow the FACE format.
  • Students work in exercise books. Twice per half term, students will complete their portfolio pieces consisting of exam practice questions which will be kept in portfolio folders and will be provided with feedback which they will respond to.
