A solemn week

The fatal stabbing of Harvey Willgoose in Sheffield this week casts a dark shadow over us all. The senseless loss that his family and community will be feeling at this time is unimaginable. What it is that drives these individuals to the point of no return is beyond me, but speculation neither solves nor heals. Instead we must constantly ask ourselves what more we can be doing to protect our own community.

We have, once again, reviewed our own onsite security arrangements, this is a challenge on a site of our size. We wanted to remind our students and their parents about simple important steps that can be taken to keep our site safe during the school day. For our Sixth Form this begins with wearing their lanyard visibly. It is the only marker we have that you belong on site. Ensuring gates are not propped or held open helps to keep our perimeter secure. Consistency in our approach here is key. As a reminder to all, we have staff stationed both inside and outside the building during break periods. Finally, we would remind everyone of the advice to RUN, HIDE, TELL.
